The current Georgia state flag was instated on May 8, 2003. With a similar color scheme as the American flag, this flag has 2 red stripes and a white stripe in the middle with a blue canton with the Georgia state coat of arms in gold encompassed by 13 white stars, which represent the original 13 colonies.
Georgia's coat of arms symbolizes the states constitution with an arch, the 3 branches of government with pillars guarded by a colonial dressed soldier with his sword raised guarding the states constitution. Wrapped on the pillars are the words "Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation," which is the Georgia state motto. Underneath all these symbols are the words "In God We Trust" which represents the foundation of the state.
The flag is based on the "Stars and Bars," which was the first national flag of the Confederacy.
